We are delighted to welcome you on 20th March from 4pm for the Spring Equinox. This date marks the end of winter and the start of springtime.
A key ethos at Highclere is walking and being outside (weather permitting!). Spend a tranquil afternoon exploring the beautiful gardens in the parkland of Highclere Castle. There is no better time to see the gardens waking up for spring - from the iconic cedars of Lebanon to the intimacy of the Secret Garden and spring bulbs flowing through the Wood of Goodwill.
Just like Lady Carnarvon, Lydia Millen is also a lover of the seasons, her debut book, Evergreen, discusses how you too can find the joy in being outside. Lydia’s latest book, ‘The Evergreen Journal’, allows and guides you, the reader, to find this joy in your own life.

As the sun softens over the gardens, you will be invited into the Castle to enjoy a glass of Highclere Castle Champagne or a non-alcoholic alternative, and delicious canapés before touring the iconic State Rooms and Gallery Bedrooms.
Please arrive at 4pm for the walk and make your way to the Courtyard behind the Castle (our guides will direct you).
You will have time to explore our Gift Shop and get a hot drink before setting off through the Gardens (please wear sensible shoes). You will receive your signed copy of "A Year at Highclere" and a copy of "The Evergreen Journal" at the end of the evening.
We do invite you to dress up for the event if you wish and, don’t forget, you may need a pair of comfortable shoes for a short walk along the garden paths. In terms of sun and rain we do always hope for the best. The event will finish promptly at 7pm.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to celebrate the changing of the seasons in the beautiful setting of Highclere Castle.
This event is being held in aid of The King’s Foundation. Lydia is a dedicated supporter of the charity, which works in the UK and across the World to create sustainable communities and transforms lives through their projects and practical education programmes. Recognising Lydia’s commitment to the King’s Foundation, Lady Carnarvon is delighted to support her with the donation of £1,000 to the King’s Foundation.
Please kindly note: Dogs (guide dogs excepted) are not permitted on the walk. Reduced rate tickets for children and concessions are not available for this event. For those of limited mobility, please note that the garden walk may not be suitable due to the terrain.
